How to Design an E-flier

Fliers are a cheap and effective marketing tool. Traditional fliers are printed on paper and passed out. In the Internet age, passing out a flier is not always your best option, but you can create an e-flier. E-fliers are digital flyers that are emailed to potential customers and clients. You can create a PDF e-flier with a word program and attach it to an email message, but with the threat of viruses so rampant in email, many recipients won't open the attachment. To get around this, create the e-flier in HTML.

Things You'll Need

  • Web page editing software
  • Email program that will load an HTML document
  • Upload images to add to the e-flier to a photo hosting website like Photobucket or Flickr, or your own website directory.

  • Launch a Web-editing software program such as Microsoft Frontpage or Adobe Dreamweaver, and create a new HTML page.

  • Create the e-flier on the HTML page. Click on the "Design" tab in the application, and click on the "Text" tool. Enter text into the page that represents the point of the flier. Use the text options to change the color of the text and size. Select a font that is easy to read. Use large, colorful text to grab the recipient's attention, but keep the words short and to the point. Minimize the use of colors; too many colors can make the flier look cluttered.

  • Add images to the e-flier. Since the images are already uploaded to the Web, indicate their location in HTML on the page. For example, if you uploaded the image to Photobucket, log into your account, click on "My Albums," find the image you want to add, and copy the "HTML Code" for that image. Go back to your e-flier and copy the HTML code for the image in the spot where you want the image displayed.

  • Save the page on the computer as an HTML file (e.g., myeflier.html).

  • Open an email software that will allow you to insert an HTML file, such as Outlook Express. If using Outlook Express, for example, select "Create Mail," click "Insert" and choose "Text From File." Select the saved HTML e-flier in the browser window. Send the e-flier to yourself first to test it out, if you like the result send it to other recipients.
