If an eBay store is good enough for Courtney Love, it just may be good enough for you. Love's selling her used stuff in an eBay storefront that features a big black and white custom header, pretty typography and some intriguing items for sale, such as her old leopard print purse, several vintage dresses and size 8, pre-owned Marc Jacob suede boots. Opening up your own eBay shop may be a viable alternative to pushing friends, family and neighbors to relieve you of your clutter. EBay shops provide you with a structured online sales environment that's driven by auctions and a passion for sales, or a need to liquidate the items in your closet.

Instructions

    • 1

Develop a strong concept for your store, as you'll need one to pick a strong store name. Attracting people to your eBay store may be easy if you are already famous, but when you are not famous, you need to create a memorable storefront and store name. Plan to cater to buyers within a unique niche, or develop a theme that coincides with the items you will place into an eBay storefront.

    • 2

Build your reputation as an eBay seller. Sellers with substandard reputations are not able to open a premium-level storefront. On eBay, your credibility as a store owner shows in your feedback rating.

    • 3

Visit pages.ebay.com/storefronts/start.html to learn more about your store ownership options. Click "Subscribe Now" when you are ready to start the process of opening an eBay store.

    • 4

Log into eBay when prompted and choose your subscription level. Your options include a "Basic Store," "Premium Store" or an "Anchor Store." The prices vary and impact what your listing fees will be. Choose the type of store that best suits your needs and anticipated selling volume.

    • 5

Type your store name into the "Choose a Store Name" field. Your character count limit for an eBay storefront name is 35, including spaces. Click "Continue" after you double-check the store name for proper spelling and capitalization.

    • 6

Check the add-on feature boxes as necessary. Basic store subscribers qualify for discounts on special features such as customized emails, bulk feedback and sales reports. Premium subscribes do not have to pay for such perks.

    • 7

Review the details about the store you are opening on the "Subscribe to eBay Store" page, agree to eBay's terms and click "Subscribe" to complete opening your eBay storefront.

Tips & Warnings

  • After you click "Subscribe," you are bound to keep the store for a minimum of 30 days, for which eBay will bill you. Downgrading or cancelling within the first month will not prevent eBay from billing you for the new storefront.
