How to Convert a Flash Scene to a Movie Clip

Adobe Flash is a multimedia application that enables you to create animations using various concepts like scenes and movie clips. Scenes are used in much the way cinema movie scenes are; it is an animation grouping that usually represents smaller movie sections of the whole movie. Movie clips are reusable objects that consist of other flash objects such as sound, images or entire scenes. You may want to convert small animations, such as a car with turning wheels, into movie clips for use in multiple locations of your movie.

  • Open the Flash project that contains the scene you want to convert.

  • Press "Ctrl" + "F8" to create a new symbol. Enter the movie clip name you want into the "Name" field and press "OK".

  • Click on the scene you want to convert from the "Scene" panel to make it the active scene. Select all layers in the scene by clicking on the "Layer Name" of the first one, pressing the shift key, and then clicking the "Layer Name" of the last one. This selects all the frames as well.

  • Right-click in the frames portion on the right-hand side, and choose "Copy Frames" from the drop-down menu.

  • Locate the movie clip you created in the "Library" panel and double-click it to open it. The clip consists of one frame. Right-click in the frame and choose "Paste Frames" from the drop-down menu. The movie clip now contains the scene.
