How to Install "Civilization IV" in Windows 7

Save

Civilization IV is a popular game in which civilizations are built to rise and fall. The game contains realistic features such as economies. It was originally made for the Windows XP operating system. However, many users would still like to play it on Windows 7 computers. Previously, there was a tedious method of running the installation files and applications in "compatibility mode." However, the most recent Direct X web update has eliminated the need for this lengthy process.

  • Insert the installation CD into the CD-ROM drive.

  • Click on "Start" and then "My Computer."

  • Right click on the CD-ROM drive and select "Explore."

  • Open "Setup.exe."

  • Follow the on-screen instructions and insert the second disc when prompted. Wait for the install to finish.

  • Download "DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer" (see Resources).

  • Double-click on the downloaded file and click "Open."

  • Follow the on-screen instructions and allow the installation to finish.

  • Restart the computer.
