How to Make a Line Plot on Powerpoint

Microsoft Office PowerPoint can plot data on a line chart. A line chart can display trends over a period of time. The PowerPoint program includes a "Chart" button on the "Insert" tab in the command Ribbon. When you select a line chart, an Excel worksheet will appear. The data entered on the worksheet converts to a line chart. PowerPoint includes editing commands to create a custom look.

  • Open the PowerPoint file.

  • Click on the "Insert" tab on the Ribbon.

  • Click on the "Chart" button in the "Illustrations" group. A dialog box will show different types of charts, including "Line."

  • Double-click on the desired "Line" chart. Different line charts include "Line with Markers" and "3-D Line." An Excel worksheet will appear.

  • Enter the column headers, categories and values in the worksheet. Enter the category data on the horizontal axis; enter the value data on the vertical axis. The data will convert to the line chart.

  • Edit the chart for a custom look. For example, the Design" tab and the "Home" tab include editing commands to change the chart layout, color and font size.

  • Save this PowerPoint file.
