How to View CBZ Files on a Kindle 2

CBZ files are zipped directories of images that are typically comic-book or Japanese manga pages. Images in CBZ files can be displayed using a comic-book reader or compatible e-book reader. The Kindle 2, Amazon's second generation of e-book reader, supports ZIP files and will read and display CBZ files without any conversion or file-extension changes.

Things You'll Need

  • Kindle USB cable
  • Connect the Kindle 2 to the computer using the Kindle USB cable. The Kindle 2 will enter USB mode and mount as a removable storage device.

  • Double-click on the "Computer" icon on the desktop to open the list of mounted storage volumes.

  • Double-click on the Kindle 2 volume and then open the "Documents" folder.

  • Drag-and-drop your CBZ files to the "Documents" directory to copy them to the Kindle 2.

  • Disconnect the Kindle 2 from the computer or press the "Back" button on the device to quit USB mode.

  • Press the five-way control stick up on the Kindle 2 to select the top menu.

  • Press the control stick left to select "Documents" from the top menu. A list of files that are not e-books will appear.

  • Select your CBZ file and press the control stick to open it. The CBZ will display and you can use the "Next Page" and "Back" buttons to cycle through the images.

Tips & Warnings

  • CBR, or directories of images that have been compressed using RAR, are incompatible with the Kindle 2 and will need to be converted before reading.
