How to Place WordPress Widgets on a Page

Sidebar widgets can add a bit of character to your WordPress blog. Whether you want a calendar, a search bar, a donation button or a mini Twitter feed, chances are that there's a widget that offers what you need. Many WP templates come with pre-installed widgets. While you can often integrate new widgets via WP plugins, keep in mind that third-party widgets may not mesh properly with your blog theme. No matter what widgets you are using, the steps for placing them are universal.

Instructions

    • 1

Login to your WordPress dashboard. Click on the "Appearance" tab in the left sidebar. The sidebar will expand to display a number of submenus.

    • 2

Click the blue "Widgets" link. The Widgets page will load within the main Dashboard panel. This page will be separated into two sections: Available Widgets and your blog's sidebars. If your blog only has one sidebar, then only one sidebar section will be displayed.

    • 3

Click and drag your desired widgets from the Available Widgets section to the sidebar section. If the widget has settings that you wish to alter (such as the title or text), click the little triangle on the right side of the widget to expand the settings. Once a widget has been placed within a sidebar, it will go live on your blog. You may drag the widgets around within the sidebar to adjust their placement.
