How to Play Ragnarok Mage
The job class mage in "Ragnarok Online" specializes in casting spells. Unlike an acolyte, the skills a mage can learn are black magic and are not for healing. Mages start out physically weak, but their spells strengthen as you progress through the game. After you reach Level 50, you can choose to turn your mage into one of two advanced classes: wizard or sage. Playing as a mage requires knowing where to battle monsters and choosing the appropriate equipment.

Use the skill Fire Bolt to help level up your mage. To successfully level your mage for play, party with a full support healer character, such as a priest or acolyte. Have your party member heal you and cast spells to help you increase the effectiveness of your own spells. Popular enemies for a mage to battle include stings and geographers. From level 10 to 28, battle on the Payon Cave map; from level 28 to 35, fight the "Greatest General"; then fight at the "Clock Tower" map until you reach Level 50. At Level 50 you can change jobs if you want.

Buy your mage proper equipment. Choose to equip the Pupa Armor and a Healing Clip to help regenerate and increase your maximum health points. Opt to buy wands rather than rods to boost the damage your spells cause.

Increase you Intelligence ("INT") stat before any other. As you level, choose to increase your "INT" stat until it reaches 70. Once it reaches 70, you can add points to your Dexterity stat, Vitality stat or Agility stat as you see fit for your specific mage build.

Decide if you want your mage to become a wizard or a sage. The secondary job you choose will determine what skills you learn as a mage. If you want to eventually be a wizard, opt for black magic spells and protection spells. such as Safety Wall. For sages, learn elemental skills.
