How to Troubleshoot an Upgrade of RAM on a Dell 2400 With XP
The Dell Dimension 2400 is a desktop computer designed to run the Windows XP operating system. If you have recently installed new RAM on a Dimension 2400 and your computer is not operating properly, check a few things before taking the computer to a repair shop. Make sure that you are using the right type of RAM and that it is installed correctly.

Unplug the power cable from the back of the 2400. Press the power button on the front of the computer's tower to dispel any electricity that is still inside the computer's components.

Press down on the latch on the back of the computer tower. Push the tower door back to reveal the components on the inside of the system.

Locate the RAM inside the system. The RAM is located on the right side of the processor, which is the large silver object in the middle of the motherboard.

Press the outer clips on the RAM to eject it from the RAM slots. Pull the RAM out of the motherboard.

Locate the RAM type on the RAM card. The RAM type should be DDR-SDRAM. This should be labeled on the RAM card. Determine the RAM amount. Computers in the 2400 Series allow only 2 GB of RAM.

Remove the RAM if it is not the right type or if you have exceeded the amount allowed in the system. Have a technician look over your motherboard if the RAM type and the amount are correct, as you might have a burned RAM port.
