How to Cut a Watermelon Into Cubes
Although watermelon is a refreshing, healthy treat for hot days, cutting and serving it can be a heavy, messy affair. Have cubes of watermelon on hand to keep things bite sized and simple, or toss them in a salad or a smoothie. You can cube your watermelon quickly by making a few well-placed cuts with a butcher knife without creating a huge mess. Does this Spark an idea?

Rinse the melon off under cold water and place it on the cutting board.

Cut the watermelon in half lengthwise from root to tip. Cut the halves in half as well so you have four quarters of watermelon.

Slide your knife all the way underneath the red fruit, right where it forms a line with the white rind. Do not remove the fruit from the rind.

Make vertical cuts 1 inch apart all the way across a quarter of melon.

Place the quarter of watermelon on its side and make a second row of 1-inch cuts from tip to root.

Turn the melon on it's other side and make another row of 1-inch cuts through the fruit, from tip to root.

Turn the quarter melon over into a bowl, and the cubes of melon should fall right out.

Scrape any remaining pieces on the rind with a knife into the bowl.

Repeat with the other quarters until all the watermelon has been cubed.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't rinse the melon, any dirt left on the rind can get on the knife and into the fruit while you are cutting.
Always cut with the blade away from you.
