How to Make a Classic Club Sandwich

This is the double-decker sandwich known and loved at lunch counters everywhere. It's good for when you have leftover turkey or chicken. And don't be limited by the ingredients here - add whatever else you like between the three slices of bread. Makes four sandwiches.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • about 8 oz. cooked turkey or chicken - white meat
  • 12 slices white bread
  • mayonnaise
  • 4 leaves Bibb lettuce
  • 1 large tomato
  • 16 slices bacon, cooked crisp and drained
  • cucumber (optional)
  • Groceries
  • Chef's Knives

  1. Step 1

    Slice the turkey or chicken thinly.

  2. Step 2

    Toast the white bread.

  3. Step 3

    Spread the toasted bread lightly with mayonnaise.

  4. Step 4

    Top four of the slices of toasted bread with Bibb lettuce and 2 oz. turkey.

  5. Step 5

    Take another four slices of bread and place on top of the turkey, mayonnaise side up.

  6. Step 6

    Top each of these slices of bread with Bibb lettuce, a slice of tomato, four slices of bacon and some cucumber, if desired.

  7. Step 7

    Top with another four slices of bread, mayonnaise side down, and cut each sandwich into four triangles.

  8. Step 8

    Pierce each triangle with a toothpick and serve.

on 11/12/2007 I have found that after cutting into triangles, if you put the bread crust side down to the plate and stand the triangles up on their sides and place the four small sandwiches around the plate in a circle -with them all touching, putting a small pile of pickles in the middle of them makes a nice touch as well for serving.

on 11/22/2005 Don't forget the cheese! A slice or two of American or Swiss cheese make a great addition to this sandwich.
