How to Make a Beaded Turtle
Craft animals can be made with colored pony beads. Turtles are made with two different colors of pony beads and some satin cord. Light green pony beads are used for its head and feet, while dark green pony beads are used for its shell. You can make your own turtles with green beads, or you can use brown beads, depending on what kind of turtle you want to make. You can even make a whole family of turtles by using different colored beads.
Things You'll Need
- Satin cord, 2 feet
- 8 light green pony beads
- 10 dark green pony beads
- Scissors

1
Place the ends of the satin cord together and fold it in half. Make a half-inch loop at the midpoint of the cord. Tie a knot into the cord just beneath the loop to secure it.
-
2
Take the right end of the cord, insert it into a light green pony bead and pull it through. Take the left end of the cord, insert it through the same light green pony bead and pull it through. Position the bead so the hole is facing the sides and not at you.

3
Take the right end of the cord and insert it through two light green pony beads and slide the beads down the cord. Hold the two beads next to each other on the cord so they are sitting beneath the first light green pony bead, with their holes in the same direction (the first bead should be above the two beads, right where they touch each other). Insert the left end through the two pony beads and pull it through. Tighten the ends to finish the head of the turtle.

4
Insert the right end through three dark green pony beads and pull it through. Move the dark green beads so they make a row beneath the row of light green beads. Insert the left end through the same three dark green pony beads and pull it through. Tighten the ends of the cord.

5
Hold a light green pony bead so the hole is running in the opposite direction of the other beads (up and down as opposed to right to left) on the left side of the row of three dark green beads. While holding the bead in this position, insert the left cord end into the top of the bead, pull it through. Insert the left cord through the three dark beads again and pull it through. Pull the cord tight to hold the light green bead in place, making the left front foot of the turtle. Repeat this process with the right cord end and another light green bead on the right side of the three dark green beads, adding the front right foot.
-
6
Insert the right end of the cord into four dark green beads and pull it through. Insert the left end through the same four dark green beads and pull it through. Pull the ends tight.
-
7
Insert the right end of the cord into three dark green beads. Insert the left end through the same three beads. Pull the cords tight to make a row of three dark green beads beneath the row of four.
-
8
Insert the left end of the cord into a light green bead, position the bead so that its hole is facing top to bottom, not right to left, on the left side of the three dark green beads. Insert the left end back through the first two dark green beads and pull it out of the second bead. Pull the cord so it is pointing down from the rows of beads from the center dark green bead. Pull the cord end tight to secure the back left foot of the turtle.
-
9
Insert the right cord end through a light green bead. Position it so that its hole is facing top to bottom, not right to left, then insert the right cord through two dark green beads and pull it down so it is hanging down from the center bead. Pull the right end tight to secure the back right foot of the turtle.
-
10
Insert the right end of the cord through a light green bead and pull it through. Insert the left end through the same light green bead and pull it through to make the tail. Pull the ends tight and tie them in a double knot. Trim off the remaining excess cord with scissors.
