DIY Sisterlocks

Sisterlocks are becoming fashionable because of their versatility and low-maintenance. The hairstyle is a type of dreadlock that is created by threading the hair unto itself. The threading action creates a lock and prevents the hair from unraveling. Although the hair won't unravel, sisterlocks require re-tightening of new growth and to keep them neat. Re-tighten every six to eight weeks to give the style a more uniform appearance. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the hair with a natural shampoo. Don't condition the hair and allow it to completely dry.

    • 2

Part the hair into a 1/2 inch section along the front or back hairline.

    • 3

Comb the section of hair with a wide-tooth comb to remove tangles. Comb the same section with a fine-tooth comb.

    • 4

Twist the ends of the section. Place the bottom 1/2 inch of hair between two fingers. Roll the hair between your fingers until it twists unto itself.

    • 5

Pull the section of hair toward you, holding the twisted ends.

    • 6

Visualize the section of hair divided into three parts. Insert one finger into the section of hair to create a division between the first and second parts. Pull your finger all the way down, through the hair, until you reach where the end of the section begins to twist.

    • 7

Fold the tail end of the twist up into the part created by your finger, and pull it through. You have created your first sisterlock.

    • 8

Create another division with your finger within the same section, between the second and third parts of hair. Drag your finger all the way down until you've reached the twisted end, and fold the tail end of the twist into the second division.

    • 9

Repeat the process, folding the tail end of the twist into the first and second divisions until you've locked the entire section of hair. Then do the next section.
