How Do I Remove the Gas Tank on a John Deere L120 Mower?
The John Deere L120 mower uses a large black plastic gas tank mounting onto the engine under the engine hood to hold the gas needed to power the engine. Often, when completing maintenance on the mower, you must remove the gas tank to gain access to the defective part on the engine. Disconnect the battery from the John Deere mower by disconnecting the cable clamps from the battery terminals with a wrench.

Remove the gas cap from the gas tank and place it off to the side.

Siphon the gas out of the tank and into a gas can via a siphon hose.

Loosen the two bands that secure the tank to the mower with a screwdriver. Slid the bands toward the center of the gas tank.

Lift the tank to expose the gas shut-off valve and the gas line.

Turn the shut-off valve to the "off' position.

Pull the gas line off the tank and remove the tank from the mower.
