How to Make an Origami Polar Bear
Winter is a time that reminds many of ice, snow, cold and the animals that thrive in these conditions. If your children enjoy learning about these animals, making an origami polar bear is the perfect winter paper craft. Engaging and interactive, learning how to fold a polar bear is a quiet activity that can be done indoors, with minimal materials, during the coldest parts of winter.

Begin with a piece of white origami paper that measures 6 inches in length and 6 inches in width. Fold the paper in half lengthwise. Crease well and unfold.

Fold the top of the paper down to meet the bottom. Crease well and unfold. The paper now has two creases that divide it into four sections.

Fold the top left corner of the origami paper diagonally to meet the bottom right corner. The paper is now in the shape of a triangle. The creases divide the paper into two triangles on the top and bottom, with a square in the middle.

Fold the right side of the paper over to meet the crease on the left.

Open up the flap you made in Step 4 and press it down so that it remains open. This is an origami squash fold and the top, which will form the head of the polar bear, will not be symmetrical.

Fold the bottom left corner towards the opposite side of the paper, making a mountain fold. Crease well and unfold. Turn the paper over and repeat on the reverse side.

Turn the paper back over. Make an origami reverse fold by opening the paper slowly where you made the folds in Step 6 and pressing the tip in along the creases. Press the paper closed.

Use a black marker or colored pencil to draw a face on your origami polar bear.
