Bisquick is a ready-made flour mix introduced by General Mills in 1931. It is used to create a variety of sweet and savory foods, including biscuits, pizzas, pancakes, scones and muffins. If you run out of Bisquick, you can easily combine a few ingredients to prepare a homemade version. Homemade Bisquick mix is devoid of any chemical preservatives and also saves you money.   • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • Wire whisk

Instructions

      Measure 5 cups of all-purpose flour in a large mixing bowl to prepare 6 cups of Bisquick substitute. Add 1/4 cup baking powder, 1 tsp. salt and 2 tbsp. sugar. Use a wire whisk to combine all the ingredients and mix well.

      Add 1 cup of cold butter or margarine. Use a pastry cutter to blend the butter well with the other dry ingredients. Mix until the mixture attains a crumbly texture.

      Use as required or store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 6 weeks. Refrigerate the Bisquick substitute for longer storage, up to 4 months.

Tips & Warnings

  • 2 cups of homemade Bisquick substitute will yield 12 medium-sized biscuits.

  • Combine 2 cups of Bisquick substitute with 1 cup milk and 2 eggs to easily prepare pancakes.
