How to Bake a 50th Birthday Cake
Although every birthday is special, a 50th birthday is an event to celebrate. The center of every birthday party is the cake, and a birthday cake with 50 flaming candles is an impressive sight. A simple white cake can be baked and decorated in less than an hour. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 9-by12-inch Pyrex baking pan
- Non-stick cooking spray
- Flour sifter
- 3 cups cake flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoons salt
- Small mixing bowl
- Large mixing bowl
- Five eggs
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- Electric mixer
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Cake frosting (8 ounces)
- Spatula
- 50 birthday candles

Set your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Coat the interior of the baking pan with the cooking spray. Don't use too much.

Run the cake flour, baking powder, and salt through the sifter into the small bowl.

Break the eggs. Drop their yolks into the large bowl. Discard the egg whites. Add the sugar, shortening and vanilla into the bowl and mix well.

Mix the contents of the small bowl and the milk into the large bowl. Make sure to add the contents slowly.

Pour the well-mixed batter into the pan. Put it in the oven and let it bake for 35 minutes. Remove the pan and let the cake cool.

Spread the frosting over the cake with the spatula.

Place the candles on the cake. Light the candles.

Present the birthday cake immediately.

Tips & Warnings
Get helpers to ensure that the candles are lit quickly and carefully.
Using extra-long candles will prevent hot wax from dripping onto the cake during the birthday song.
