How to Reduce Windows Folders in Vista

Reduce the folder size to fit more folders in a specific area.

Larger-sized folder icons make it easy to see the folder icon and the name of the folder in Windows Vista. You can't fit many of those larger folder icons on your desktop, however, and as the larger subfolders start to pile up within a folder, you end up having to scroll for what can feel like an eternity just to find the folder for which you are looking. Using smaller-sized folders lets you fit more folders on the Windows Vista desktop and see more subfolders in a pane within another folder.

Instructions

  1. Desktop

    • 1

Right-click an open area on the Windows Vista desktop to open a context menu.

    • 2

Click "View." A context menu appears.

    • 3

Click "Classic" to reduce all of the icons to the smallest size. For slightly larger icons, click "Medium."

    Within Other Folders

    • 4

Right-click an open area inside of the folder to open a context menu.

    • 5

Click "View." Another context menu opens.

    • 6

Click either "List," "Small" or "Details" for the smallest sized folders; click "Medium" or "Tiles" for the second smallest sized folders; or click "Large" for the third smallest sized folders.
