How to Take Bathing Suit Pictures

Learn how to take bathing suit shots.

Most modeling agencies require potential applicants to include photographs, including head shots and full-body photographs in a bathing suit, with their application. Don't just reach for those snapshots of your beach vacation last summer, even if you think you look amazing; modeling agencies are looking for a specific type of picture. Taking the type of bathing suit pictures modeling agencies want to see shows your professionalism and increases your chances of being selected for an interview.

Things You'll Need

• Two-piece bathing suit

Instructions

1. Wear a simple two-piece bathing suit that's not too revealing. Avoid bold prints, graphics or stripes. Solid colors work well.

2. Stand in front of a simple, light-colored background, such as a white or pastel wall.

3. Throw your shoulders back and pull in your diaphragm. You'll look slimmer and feel more confident. However, don't exaggerate the pose; you want to look relaxed and natural.

4. Take pictures from the front, back and side. For the front and side pictures, bend one knee slightly, placing that leg on the ball of your foot. Keep your hands by your side. Check that each shot shows your whole body; don't let your ankles get cut off.

Tips & Warnings

• If the application includes instructions for the photographs, make sure your photos comply.

• Don't try to hide problem areas with your hands or arms or by leaning against a wall or object. Modeling agents are trained to notice these visual tricks.
