How to Reinstall XP on an Infected Computer Where the Cursor Is Frozen
Microsoft released Windows XP in 2001. Since then, XP has received numerous security updates in effort to prevent malware infestation. AS of May 2011, Microsoft has released two operating system upgrades and is no longer supporting Windows XP. This leads to more malware infections for those still using XP. You can reinstall XP on an infected computer to alleviate a frozen cursor by using XP's repair function on the installation disc.

Insert the Windows XP installation disc into the optical drive, then restart the computer.

Press any key on the keyboard, such as the spacebar, when the "Press any key to boot from the CD" prompt is displayed.

Press Enter to continue when the introductory prompt is displayed.

Press the R key to proceed with the Windows XP repair process. Windows XP completes this process automatically and replaces important system files with original non-infected versions. The computer automatically restarts when the process is complete.
