How to Set Up Action Bars in "World of Warcraft"

Save

Potential death is always around the corner in "World of Warcraft." If you don't have your action bars set up correctly and your abilities placed where you can easily find them, you might be the latest visitor to the nearest graveyard. Action bars serve as bars that hold your abilities in place on the screen, so you can easily activate them without opening your Spellbook. By default, you start out with only one action bar, but you can add up to four more as you gain more spells and abilities.

  • Press "Esc" and click "Interface" when you start the game with your chosen character.

  • Click "Action Bars" on the left pane. The action bars options will open on the right side of the window.

  • Place a check mark next to each action bar you wish to add by clicking the check box next to each action bar option. For example, you can place a check mark next to "Bottom Left Bar" and a "Bottom Right Bar" if you want two action bars to appear of the experience bar. Enabling the "Right Bar" inserts a vertical bar on the right side of your screen, while "Right Bar 2" inserts another vertical bar on the right side of your screen.

  • Clear the check mark next to "Lock Action Bar" by clicking the check box. When that option is enabled, you cannot drag abilities to or from the action bars.

  • Click the check box next to "Always Show Action Bars" to see each slot on every bar. You can disable this feature if you wish, but it's helpful when you're deciding where to place your abilities. Click "Okay."

  • Press "P" to open your Spellbook. Drag your desired spells and abilities over to the action bars by hovering over the ability, clicking down on the left mouse button and moving your mouse to a slot on the action bar.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also install action bar add-ons from various add-on sites. Each add-on has different instructions for setting up the action bars.
  • Make sure you enable "Lock Action Bars" after you finish placing your abilities and spells. Otherwise, you will likely remove the spells and abilities in combat by accidentally clicking and dragging them.
