How to Transfer an AIM Buddy List to iChat

The iChat application is an instant messenger program for Macintosh computers. It uses your Bonjour, .Mac or MobileMe account to connect with friends for instant messaging or video conferencing. IChat also imports your account information from AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) and displays your buddy lists in the iChat application exactly as it appears in the AIM program. AIM stores your account information on its server, which allows you to retrieve your buddy list on any computer logged in with your screen name.

Instructions

1. Click the iChat icon on your desktop's dock. The iChat icon is a blue speech bubble with a white video icon in it. Alternately, click "Go" at the top of the desktop, and then click "Applications." Double-click "iChat."

2. Click "iChat" at the top of the application's menu, and click "Preferences."

3. Click the Accounts icon, and click "+" in the bottom-left corner of the window. Click the "Account Type" pull-down menu in the Account Setup window, and click "AIM."

4. Type your AIM screen name and password, and click "Done." The buddy list automatically shows up in iChat once the application locates your AIM account.
