How to Shine Up Chrome
Chrome surfaces may be made of a few different types of metal alloy but they all share a shiny, highly reflective surface. This makes chrome a common choice as an accent, especially on automobiles. However, one drawback of this shininess is that dirt and grime are very visible on chrome surfaces. To give chrome the best shine, you will want to give it a thorough wash with soap and water, rinse and dry it, then apply a layer of wax for extra protection.
Things You'll Need
- Waterproof duct tape
- Hot water
- Dish soap
- Sponge
- 2 lint free cloths
- Paper towel
- Metal wax

1
Examine the chrome surface for any nicks, abrasions or other types of damage that cannot be cleaned. Take note of where they are on the surface and cover these areas with waterproof duct tape to prevent cleaning chemicals or wax from potentially causing further damage.

2
Add the dish soap to the hot water and sponge the mixture onto the chrome liberally. Rub the chrome in a circular motion and carefully clean any nooks or crevices.

3
Dry the chrome surface thoroughly using a clean, lint-free towel or a piece of paper towel. This will keep residue from remaining on the surface of the chrome. Avoid letting the chrome surface air dry to prevent unsightly water spots from forming.

4
Dip a corner of a dry towel in the tub of chrome wax. The wax should be visible on the towel but avoid picking up globs of it. Polish the surface starting on one side and working across the chrome surface in small circles. Buff the chrome using the unused portion of the towel, again working your way across the surface in small circles. This will create an even, brilliant shine.
