Crafting: How to Cover a Drink Coaster to Make It Water-Resistant
Save your tabletops from damage by using drink coasters. Coasters can make the difference between a flawless tabletop and one marred with white circles. Whatever material the coasters are made of -- cardboard, tile or wood, for example -- you can give them extra water resistance by spraying a clear acrylic coating onto the surface.
Instructions
-
-
1
Spread the newspapers on a flat work surface in several layers.
-
2
Place the drink coasters face up on the newspaper, spacing them about 3 to 4 inches apart.
-
-
3
Hold the spray can about 8 to 10 inches away from the surface of the coasters and spray the acrylic coating evenly over them.
-
4
Allow the coasters to dry for at least 5 to 10 minutes.
-
5
Spray a second coating of acrylic on the tops of the coasters, if desired.

Tips & Warnings
If you prefer, apply acrylic or polyurethane coating with a paintbrush. Brush a thin, even coat to the tops of the coasters. Allow it to dry completely -- up to eight hours -- and then apply a second coat if you desire.
Apply the coating in a well-ventilated area to avoid breathing the fumes.
