1
Spread the frosting of your choice on the sides and top of the cake. Make sure the frosting is at room temperature so that it will spread easily. It is important to choose a frosting that will not crack when it is frozen.
-
2
Use crushed cookies or candies to make a design in the icing, or sprinkle them at random.

3
Fill a piping bag with icing, and pipe a fun design on the cake. Keep it simple because the ice cream will melt fast at room temperature. Heavy decorations may slide as the cake melts.
-
4
Choose a cake topper or plastic figurine for the top of the cake. Place it on the cake right before you serve it.

Tips & Warnings
Work quickly! The ice cream will melt fast, and the frosting will harden after it touches the frozen cake. Plan to place the cake in the freezer as needed to prevent the ice cream from melting.
Remember that the cake must remain frozen until approximately 15 minutes before it is eaten, so steer clear of berries or other foods that may freeze in hard chunks and damage your teeth.
