Blue Cross Blue Shield is a nationwide provider of health insurance for individuals and families. Of the dozens of plan types and policies offered by Blue Cross Blue shield, Care First is one of them. If you have a Care First policy with Blue Cross and want to cancel it, you have to contact Blue Cross Blue Shield directly. Once you cancel your insurance policy you can no longer use it, effective immediately. Should you cancel your policy prior to obtaining a new policy and require medical services during that time you will face large medical bills.
Call Blue Cross Blue Shield using the phone number listed on the back of your health insurance card. To cancel your health insurance you must speak to a Blue Cross Blue Shield customer service representative.
Enter your member number -- listed on your health insurance card -- and the Social Security Number and date of birth of the primary policy holder. Listen to the automated prompts and make the selections that apply to your needs.
Explain to the Blue Cross Blue Shield customer service representative that you wish to cancel your policy. You will have to provide and confirm your personal information. The customer service representative will then provide you with a statement and a fax number; you need to write down that you want to cancel your policy, sign it, date it and fax it to the number provided. Until Blue Cross' Care First program receives your fax confirming your wish to cancel your policy, your policy will not be cancelled.
