The divine manifestations that would lead to the foundation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints began in 1820. During that year, a prophet by the name of Joseph Smith came in touch with apparitions of God and Jesus Christ, calling him to form a new church. Today, LDS members -- also called the Mormons -- worship throughout the United States and the world. Teaching Sunday school to LDS youth is a true responsibility, although, when handled responsibly, can be a rich and rewarding experience.

Instructions

    • 1

Consult with LDS church elders to ensure you possess church-approved materials. Only church-approved materials are permissible for Sunday school teaching.

    • 2

Look over LDS resources, including scripture, young women and young men teaching manual and the For the Strength of Youth study guide. Select a lesson early in the week prior to the Sunday you will teach. Choose from lessons, including, but not limited to: gratitude, education, sexual purity, repentance and sexual health.

    • 3

Pray for whichever lesson you intend to teach the following Sunday. Continue praying throughout the week asking God for guidance and inspiration.

    • 4

Relate the lesson to first-hand experience. Choosing a lesson on dating is a wise choice for older LDS youth -- 16 to 18 years old, for example. Open up discussion about the topic with youth members. Use church-approved resources to determine what holy scripture and the church say about dating; you must be at least 16 years old to date, for example.

    • 5

Go through ethics and values of the lesson and encourage youth members to adhere to church doctrine to remain stewards of God and committed to their faith. Ask youth members if they have any questions or are willing to share stories of good stewardship. Begin and end every lesson with prayer.
