Slipcovers are a good alternative to buying new furniture, which can be expensive. If your home needs a change, slipcovers can enhance the look of any room and completely change its style. Slipcovers can be purchased at most department stores or can be ordered online in many different fabrics, patterns and colors. Once you find the right slipcover, the challenge is getting it to look smooth and flawless on your furniture.
Things You'll Need
- Non-skid rug pad
- Tuck Once Grips
- Damp towel
Wrap additional batting, found at any fabric store, around long, thin arms, wooden arms, or arms that have worn-out fabric. You can also place batting inside seat cushions that are flattened out. Fold the batting until you have the desired thickness, place onto the arms or inside the cushion, and then place the slipcover onto your furniture according to the packaging instructions. This batting will help to fill out your sofa and allow the slipcover to fit more securely.
Cut and place a non-skid rug pad onto furniture that is slippery, such as leather. This will help the slipcover stay in place once it has been put on your furniture.
Purchase Tuck Once Grips, a product manufactured by Sure Fit, which can be purchased at most retail stores that sell slipcovers. These grips smooth the fabric of the slipcover and then tuck inside the furniture's creases. These grips also keep the slipcover fabric in place when the furniture is sat on.
Remove wrinkles from your slipcover by placing it in the dryer with a damp towel on a low setting for approximately 10 minutes. Put the slipcover back onto your furniture immediately.
Tips & Warnings
- Most slipcovers are machine washable. Refer to care instructions on the package before washing your slipcover.
