How to Get a Magma Neopet
"Neopets" is a website where players care for virtual pets called Neopets. Players can customize their Neopets by "painting" them, giving them a new color and appearance. For example, Neopets who are painted "magma" take on the appearance of hot lava. Any player can paint their Neopet magma, but it may take significant trial and error. A painted Neopet permanently loses its old coloring.

Log on to Neopets. Click the blue "Explore" button on the uppermost blue toolbar to open a "Map of Neopia." Scroll down and click on "Moltara." You'll be transported to the volcanic world of the same name.

Click the small tunnel entrance in the lower right-hand side of your screen. The entrance will glow red when your mouse touches it. The tunnel will take you to the "Moltara Caves."

Press the "Magma Pool" in the upper-right hand corner. Its name is written on a small sign next to an illustration of the fiery lake. A guard will either automatically admit you or he will say you must learn more about Moltara before proceeding. Write down what time you visited the pool if you are denied admittance.

Visit the pool in regular 10 minute intervals. There is one 10 minute period during the day when the guard is asleep, allowing you to sneak past him. Find this period, which is different for each user. Trial and error is the only way to accomplish this task.

Press the blue "Magma" button to sneak past the guard once you catch him sleeping. Click the pet you want to paint magma. Your pet will automatically be painted. Press the "Back to Moltara Caves" button to return to Neopia.

Tips & Warnings
You can only paint one pet per day.
Pets can also be randomly painted magma by the "secret lab ray," but this is unreliable and based purely on chance.
Nobody knows why some people are able to paint their Neopet automatically and why some need to catch the guard sleeping.
