How to Fill Out a Job Application Using Wordpad

One of the last things you need when filling out an job application online is to hit the "Submit" button prematurely. Yet accidents happen, so it's wise to take precautions. By filling out job applications in WordPad first, you can double-check your information before submitting it to the employer.

      Highlight the fields on the online application with your cursor. This may require you to choose the "Select" tool from the main program menu if you have opened the application as a PDF file. Right-click the highlighted text with the mouse and click "Copy."

      Open a new WordPad document. Right-click with the mouse and click "Paste" to paste the job application fields into the document. Select "File" from the program menu, then "Save as..." and save the file to your computer with a unique file name. Saving the file allows you to come back to the application if you don't finish filling it out all at once. It also protects you in case you computer crashes. Press "Ctrl+S" to save your changes as you fill out the application.

      Fill in the application with your information. Upload the file or copy its contents to the job board website to apply for the job.

  • Correct the formatting of the application in the document if necessary to make it more closely resemble the online application. For example, delete additional line breaks that appear and use the "Format" menu to edit text. Such formatting changes may occur when you copy and paste text from a website.
