How to Make Goop Without Glue
Goop is a substance made at home and in classrooms by children ranging from preschool to high school. Older children create goop to study chemical changes, while the same substance provides preschoolers with a play substance that strengthens fine muscles and encourages them to use their imaginations. Unlike Play Dough, goop changes consistency as it's handled, changing from a solid to a more liquefied state as it's manipulated. Goop is inexpensive and simple to make, requiring only a few ingredients.
Things You'll Need

1
Pour 1 cup cornstarch into the first bowl.

Food coloring adds color dye to many substances. Add 1 cup water to the second bowl. Add two to three drops of food coloring to create colored goop. Intensify the color by doubling the amount of food color added.

Use of an eye dropper allows you to add just the right amount. Scent the goop with essential oils to add another sensory factor to the goop. Stir in a few drops of the essential oil of your choice and mix well.

4
Combine the water, food coloring and fragrance mixture with the cornstarch. Stir well, then squeeze and knead with your hands until completely mixed.
-
5
Store the goop in a plastic zip bag, between uses, to prevent it from drying out.

Tips & Warnings
Use the addition of food coloring to study how colors interact. Add red and blue food coloring to make purple or yellow and blue to make green.
Double the amount of cornstarch for a thicker goop that doesn't liquefy as much as the other mixture.
Substitute a few drops of tempera paint for food coloring, if preferred.
If the goop dries out, add a few drops of water and work the water into the goop by kneading and squeezing. Continue to add water, a few drops at a time, until you get the right consistency.
