How to Tell the Difference Between a Standard Stratocaster & an American Standard Stratocaster

The Fender Stratocaster is one of the most popular electric guitars of all time. Professional players from all styles of music have used the Fender Stratocaster on some of the biggest hits ever made, including Jimi Hendrix on "Purple Haze" and Eric Clapton on "Layla." It is important to be able to distinguish between a Standard Stratocaster and an American Standard Stratocaster if you are interested in purchasing a Fender guitar. It all boils down to where the guitar was manufactured. American Standard Stratocasters are made in the USA, while Standard Stratocasters are made in Mexico.

• Fender Stratocaster guitar

Instructions

1. Locate the Fender logo on the headstock of your guitar.

2. Look directly below the Fender logo for an American Standard Strat to determine where the guitar was manufactured. The American Standard Strat will say "Made in the USA."

3. Look for "Made in Mexico" on a Standard Strat below the word "Stratocaster" on the headstock. The guitar's serial number will be below the word "Fender" on the headstock.
