Comforter Making
Comforters are used on top of beds to add color and design to the room and extra warmth to the bed during chilly weather. While thousands of styles are available in stores, there is no guarantee you will find exactly what you want. Additionally, even non-elaborate commercially manufactured comforters can be expensive. If you have basic sewing experience you can whip up your own comforter with no difficult measuring required. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Visit a home store that sells flat sheets separately. Choose two flat sheets one size larger than your mattresses to provide some hangover at the edges.
-
2
Spread out one sheet on the floor with the side you want to show on your comforter facing up. Place the second sheet face down over the first and smooth out any wrinkles. Lay the sheet batting in the center of the second sheet so it is 1/8 inch in from edge.

Pin through the batting and sheets with straight pins down each long side and along one short side. Place the pins in straight lines approximately 1/8 inch from the batting edges and a total of ¼ inch from the edges of the sheets. Sew seams along these three sides and remove the pins.
-
4
Carefully turn the comforter right side out. The good sides of the fabric will show on each side of the comforter, and the batting will be sandwiched in the middle. Fold the edges of the open end inward so they just touch the end of the batting and sew this side closed.
