How to Create an iCal Calendar

When used correctly, computers can do wonders for your productivity. iCal is a scheduling and calendar program for your Mac. Using iCal, you can create a calendar, add events, and even share your calendar with others. While one calendar is probably enough for most people, you have the option of creating multiple calendars with different events on each one. This can be handy for those trying to keep their personal and business lives separate, or just people with a lot on their plates in different areas.

  • Open iCal. You can find iCal in the Applications folder.

  • Open the File menu and select "New Calendar". Enter the name of your new new calendar. Having different names for different calendars will help you keep your separate schedules properly sorted.

  • Select the calendar you want to edit. You can find a list of all your different calendars on the left side of the screen.

  • Hold down the mouse button and drag the a box across the date and time when you would like to add an event. For example, if yo wanted to add an event that lasted from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Tuesday, you would find the Tuesday column, hold down the mouse button at 1:00 PM, and drag the box down to 3:00 PM. You can also create events that happen at the same time every day by dragging the event across multiple days.

  • Double-click on the event you just added. Type in a name for your new event. If you want to change the time that the event begins and ends, simply change the times in the "From" and "To" text fields.
