GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program, a free open-source image processing program much like Adobe Photoshop. GIMP is not exactly the same as high-priced professional packages, but is more than adequate as an alternative to those programs. As of May, 2011, the most current version of GIMP is version 2.7.2., but if you want to install an earlier version, such as 2.4.5, you can.

      Open your web browser and go to the GIMP 2.4.5 download link on Filehippo.com. There is a direct link to this page in the Resources section of this article. Download the GIMP 2.4.5 installer by clicking the "Download this version" link at the upper right of the screen. Click "Save."

      Double-click the GIMP setup utility after the download is complete to launch the install wizard.

      Click the "Next" buttons on the first two windows that appear. Click on the "Install now" button in the "Ready to Install" window. You will see a bar graph at the bottom indicating the progress of the installation.
