How to Measure Water Pressure With a Gauge
Water pressure is a measure of the amount of force water applies in pounds per square inch (psi). It is highest when the water is at rest and reduces the more you open a tap. Water pressure is affected by a number of things including a restrictive water meter, corroded pipes, crimped pipes, obstructions in the piping, pipe diameter and occasionally a partially closed city valve. Checking the pressure is done on a tap with threads and a water-pressure gauge. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Turn off all faucets and ice makers in the home to make sure there is no water moving through the system. Double-check that everything is off by observing the water meter for movement.
-
2
Screw the end of the gauge on a water outlet. Hose bibs and washing machine connections typically have the threads you need to fasten the gauge. It is best to check the pressure in the basement or first-floor because pressure is reduced with elevation.

3
Open the valve for the faucet the gauge is attached to. Read the pressure on the gauge.

Tips & Warnings
The normal water pressure range is 50 to 80 psi. Anything higher than 80 psi will damage the supply piping and valves.
