How Do I Respond Nicely to a Job Rejection Email?
Receiving a rejection email for a job that you applied for can be a frustrating experience. In a competitive marketplace where jobs are tough to come by, it can feel especially hurtful because you know how tough it is to find employment. After receiving the email, take a deep breath, compose yourself and remember to think about how you want to respond so that you may still be considered by that company for possible employment at a future date.

1
Open your email response thanking him for the opportunity to apply for the job. If you had a face-to-face interview, you might also add that it was a pleasure to meet them in person.
-
2
Indicate that you realize you were not selected. Your response should be fairly short in nature. Cutting right to the fact that you realize you did not get the job will move the letter along quickly.

3
Thank the individual for getting back to you with a definitive response. If the response came quickly, then you might thank him for making that decision in a timely manner. If this was a longer, more drawn out interview situation, simply thank them for letting you know so you can move on and try to procure other employment.

4
Mention that you are still passionate about working for the company. Just because they hired someone else, does not mean that either another position won't open up shortly, or that the person they hired does not work out. Keep the door open by underscoring your enthusiasm for the company or brand and telling them to please keep your application on file.
-
5
Close the letter in an appreciative manner. You might reiterate how much you appreciated the opportunity, or how much you enjoyed meeting him personally. It should be a short sentence that nicely book ends the letter. If you have an email signature, you can place it at the end of the letter.
