How to Adjust Exposure in GIMP

GIMP is a full featured, free graphics editor that contains an extensive amount of tools for working with and manipulating images. You can adjust the exposure on a photo or graphic by using the brightness and contrast tools in GIMP. These tools can adjust photos that might be under or over exposed, due to the lighting or settings on the camera.

  • Click "Tools" in the GIMP menu.

  • Click "Color Tools".

  • Select "Brightness/Contrast".

  • Slide the brightness and contrast sliders until the photo looks properly exposed. If the brightness and contrast settings aren't giving you the adjustments that you feel the photo needs, click "Edit these settings as levels" and use the graph to adjust the photo exposure levels.

  • Click "OK" to apply these changes.
