How to Hide the Toolbox in GIMP
GIMP is a free graphic design program you can use to accomplish any number of digital imaging tasks. When you launch GIMP, your workbook opens separately from the main toolbox. However, if you click the "X" icon at the top of the Toolbox dialog, you will prompt the shut-down of the entire program. Many GIMP users keep the Toolbox visible at all times, but you can actually hide the main toolbar if desired.

Tips & Warnings
If you want to hide the Layers toolbar also, simply click the red "X" icon at the top of the Layers dialog. You can prompt the Layers toolbar to reappear by holding down "Control" and pressing on the "L" key.
Clicking on the "X" icon at the top right-hand side of the toolbar will not hide the toolbar. Instead it will initiate the closing of GIMP itself.
