Mimic the effect of snow using common household ingredients.

Newly-fallen snow collecting upon the windowsill evokes a sense of coziness, signaling all that winter means, from relaxing by the fire to celebrating holidays with family. People who live in warmer climates may not get to experience this winter magic, but by creating snow to paint with, you can add this touch of holiday cheer to your windows. There are two methods for making the snow.

Instructions

  1. Paint on Directly

    • 1

Pour 2/3 cup of liquid starch into a large bowl. Add 2 cups of soap flakes to the mixture. Only use white soap flakes.

    • 2

Slowly add 3 tbsp. of water to the soap and starch combination.

    • 3

Use an egg beater to whip the mixture until it develops a thick consistency.

    • 4

Dip a paintbrush into the mixture to apply to windows, holiday trees or decorations.

    Glue Painting

    • 5

Place 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of talcum powder in a large bowl.

    • 6

Mix the ingredients together until thoroughly combined.

    • 7

Use a paint brush to apply glue to an area where you want the snow to stick. Sprinkle the snow over the glue.

Tips & Warnings

  • To add a shimmering effect to either snow mixture, add a bit of silver glitter.

  • While the laundry soap snow will wash off easily, be aware that the glue snow is much harder to remove. Only use it when a permanent option is desired.
