How to Turn off the Captcha on Facebook

For security purposes, Facebook requires users with unverified accounts to enter into an input box a series of characters that appear on-screen when sending friend requests to other users. The captcha security measure lets Facebook know that there is a real person on the other end of the request. As an alternative to entering a captcha each time you send a friend request, you have the option to verify your account with Facebook. You can do so using a text-message code sent to your mobile phone or by using a valid email address from an affiliate university or college.

Verify With Mobile Phone

  • Click the "Verify" link found below the captcha that appears when sending a friend request.

  • Enter your mobile phone number by selecting your country code and keying in your phone number without any special characters or leading zeros.

  • Follow the prompts to have a confirmation code sent to your mobile phone.

  • Enter the code that you receive in the "Code" field and click the "Confirm" button.

Verify With Email Address

  • Click the "Account" link in the top-right corner of your Facebook profile page and select "Account Settings."

  • Click the "Networks" tab.

  • Enter the name of the college or university with which you are associated in the "Join a Network" field.

  • Enter the email address provided to you by the college or university in the "Network Email Address" field and click "Join Network."

  • Access the email address you entered to confirm your affiliation to the network.
