How to Make Homemade Dead Bride Costumes

A veil doubles as a shroud in a dead bride costume.

Whether you are dressing up a Tim Burton's Corpse Bride or a zombie jilted at the altar, a thrift shop is a good place to start when you gather supplies for a dead bride Halloween costume. Find an old wedding dress or a white prom gown and a veil with no sentimental value, because these costume supplies will be shredded and stained and bloodied, to look like they have been in the grave.

  • Hangers

Instructions

    • 1

Find an old white gown that fits, but does not have to be in good condition. Tear the hem, shred the sleeves, rip the lace, so that the dress looks old and worn, but is still wearable. Do the same with the veil.

    • 2

Fill the kitchen sink about half way with hot water and stir in 6 to 8 tea bags. Once the water has changed color, submerge the gown and veil and allow them to soak for at least 30 minutes or until they take on a brownish-yellow hue. Squeeze out the excess water and hang both garments up to air dry.

    • 3

Decorate the dress, veil, shoes and gloves to look as though they have been buried. Drip fake blood on all the items and dust them with talcum powder or flour. Attach plastic insects to the garments with a needle and thread or hot glue. Take the dress outside and rub it on the grass for grass stains, or in the garden for dirt smudges.

    • 4

Apply gray Halloween makeup to your face so you look like a corpse. Style your hair or a wig in an elaborate, formal style, then mess it up so that the styling comes apart and looks like the hairdo is disintegrating. Dust you hair, or the wig, with powder. To dress as the Corpse Bride you will need a wig with long black hair. Use colored hair spray to add two blue streaks to the hair in front.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear the veil over your face for a ghostly look.

  • Carry a bouquet or wear a crown of dead flowers.
