How to Place Points on Google Maps
While Google Maps attempts to provide established businesses, organizations and general points of interests throughout each country, you may want to add a place mark to distinguish a new business or add an unpublished point of interest. After inserting the place mark into the map, you can add a description and a title. You can also choose to share the place mark with other Google Maps users. To add a new place mark, you must have a Google account.

Visit maps.google.com. Click the "Sign in" button to sign in to your Google account, if you are not already signed in. If you don't have an account, you can create one after you click "Sign in." You will have to navigate back to the Google Maps page after creating your account.

Type the location where you wish to add your point in the "Search" box. You can also navigate to the location by using the onscreen map and zooming in using the scroll button on your mouse, if it has one, or by clicking the "+" button on the Google map control.

Click the blue "My Maps" link on the left side of the page. Click "Get Started" under the video.

Zoom in to exactly the location you wish to place your point. The best option is to zoom in all the way, so that you can pinpoint the location.

Click the "Add a Placemark" button at the top of the Map. The button looks like a blue balloon. Click on the map where you want the place mark. Once you insert the place mark, a description box will appear. Enter a name for the place mark and its description.

Click the circle next to "Public" or "Unlisted" on the left side of the page. "Public" indicates that your place mark can be seen by anyone, whereas an "Unlisted" place mark remains private to you.

Click "OK." Your map is now saved. If you wish to edit the map later, you can do so by clicking "My Maps" and selecting the map you wish to edit.

Tips & Warnings
You can also email a link to your place mark. This is useful if you want to show friends an exact location for a meeting, such as a party, picnic or sports event. To do so, go to the Google Maps site and sign in to your Google account. Click "My Maps," then click the map that contains your place mark. Click your place mark on the map, then click "More." Click "Send." Type in the person's email address, followed by the message you wish to send. After you're finished, click "Send."
