How to Adjust the Carb on a Homelite Super VI Chainsaw
The Homelite Super VI chainsaw operates with a fully adjustable carburetion system. This carburetor allows the user to open and close vents inside the carburetor to regulate the flow of gas at different engine speeds. The operator can adjust the idle, low and high speeds of the chainsaw engine to achieve the most efficient and cleanest-burning engine possible. However, over-adjusting the carburetor, especially at high speeds, can burn out the piston and destroy the chainsaw engine. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Loosen the air filter cover's retaining screws, which on the Super VI chainsaw is on the side opposite the clutch system. Pull the filter out of the air filter cup and slap the pad against the palm of your hand. Brush the cup, filter and inside the area above the carburetor. Leave the filter and cup off the engine.
-
2
Open the fuel tank cap on the Super VI and dump out all bad or old fuel into the approved fuel container. Mix fresh chainsaw fuel according to the VI's fuel specifications. Fill the tank with freshly mixed fuel.

3
Start the Super VI's engine and let it run at least 10 minutes to achieve its full operating temperatures. Find the three carburetor adjusting screws on the top and right side of the carburetor. Insert a small screwdriver into the screw set away from the other two adjusting screws. This screw will be for the idle speed.
-
4
Turn the screw clockwise until the clutch engages and the chain begins to move. Stop turning the screw and move it counterclockwise until the chain stops spinning. Move the screw clockwise again to the highest idle speed before the chain starts to spin.
-
5
Find the low-speed adjusting screw, often on the left of the two screws close together and closest to the intake manifold. Turn the screw clockwise until the engine begins surging and revving to higher speeds. Stop turning the screw immediately and turn the screw counterclockwise until the engine begins to bog down.
-
6
Adjust the low-speed screw between these two points, looking for the smoothest acceleration and the cleanest engine sounds. Readjust the idle speed screw as it will have changed slightly.

Tips & Warnings
Don't attempt to adjust the high-speed screw without professional assistance.
An over-adjusted high speed can destroy the engine in seconds.
