How to Connect a USB Video Camera in OS X
The Apple Macintosh operating system OS X, also known as OS 10, was first released in 2001. OS X is different than the classic Macintosh operating system that was used previously, in that it is based on Unix. Different versions of OS X have been given names taken from large cats, like "Cheetah," "Tiger" and "Snow Leopard." A USB video camera is a small camera which plugs into the USB port on a computer. These are commonly used for video chatting and conferencing.

1
Plug the USB cable from the camera into the USB jack on your computer. If the camera automatically loads its own driver, click the install button when prompted. There should be no need to go further if the installation succeeds.
-
2
Click on the drive image, if one appears on the screen. Look for a file named "install" or one that ends in ".dmg." Click on this file to install the camera driver.

3
Install the "macam" driver (webcam-osx.sourceforge.net) if your camera is still not working, or if there was a problem with the installation. This freeware works as an OS X driver for hundreds of different cameras. Double-click on the "macam.dmg" file when it appears on your desktop. In the window that pops up, drag the macam logo to your Applications folder and drag the macam.component file to the folder that is labeled "drag component into here." Your USB camera should now work with all applications in Mac OS X.
