How to Clean Polyurethane Foam

Fabric cleaner can be used to clean polyurethane foam.

Polyurethane foam is a material that is often used to make upholstered furniture. In fact, it can be the main material used to make items like sofas, chairs and mattresses. It is generally soft and comfortable and tends to hold up fairly well over time. While this material is durable and tough to damage, it is not so tough to get it dirty. When you notice upholstery or any other items made from this foam getting dingy, there's a simple process you can use to clean the polyurethane foam material.

Things You'll Need

• Vacuum cleaner
• Fabric cleaner
• Spray bottle
• Spray nozzle or handheld shower head
• Water

Instructions

1. Use your vacuum cleaner's upholstery cleaning attachment to remove surface dirt from the polyurethane foam.

2. Pour a liquid fabric cleaner into an empty spray bottle.

3. Mist the polyurethane material with the fabric cleaner.

4. Use a hose spray nozzle or handheld showerhead to spray off the polyurethane foam and rinse thoroughly.

5. Apply pressure to the polyurethane foam to remove excess water. Do not wring the material.

6. Lay the polyurethane foam flat to dry. Do not move it until it's completely dry.
