How to Know When Your Post Office Is Hiring thumbnail
A mail carrier is just one position needed at post offices.

The United States Postal Service runs and organizes all post offices in the United States. Local post office branches offer numerous types of jobs to applicants, including careers as mail carriers, in sales and management as well as positions in marketing. A little research is all that stands between you and knowing what job positions are available at your local post office.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a resume detailing the work experiences you have had. In addition to work experience, be sure to include any volunteer work you do or other relevant information that will make you stand out among other applicants.

    • 2

Visit your local post office and inquire about available positions, or, visit the United States Postal Service website to view an online database of available post office jobs in your area. Be aware that positions are posted as they become available, so checking the website or visiting your post office often is recommended. If you visit the post office, it is a good idea to leave a copy of your resume; the post office may contact you when a position that you are qualified for becomes available.

Research the employment requirements that are set forth by the United States Postal Service, keeping in mind that the specific position you are interested in may have its own requirements. The basic requirements for all applicants at the United States Postal Service are: age 18 and older (or age 16 with a high school diploma), a U.S. citizen or legal alien, ability to speak English, ability to submit to a criminal background check, drug screening and medical assessment and submit a safe driving record if the situation warrants. Contact your local post office branch if you have any questions regarding your eligibility for work.
