How to Spot a Spy in TF2

Team Fortress 2, or TF2, is a multiplayer video game where two teams, RED and BLU, fight against each other in various maps. In Team Fortress 2, you can choose one of nine different classes to play with. The Spy, one of those nine classes, has specific abilities that allow him to infiltrate enemy territory. The cloaking ability allows him to turn invisible for a limited time; the disguise ability lets him impersonate players from the opposing team. You can spot a Spy in Team Fortress 2 in just a few steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Look out for suspicious behavior from any of your teammates. For example, if you see one of your teammates walking away from the front line toward your base, he may be a disguised spy.

    • 2

Try to bump against your teammates. In Team Fortress 2, players from the same team can walk right through each other when they meet. If your character stops when bumping against someone who appears to be from the same team, he is a Spy disguised as one of your team members.

    • 3

Play as Pyro and use your flamethrower on your teammates. Because friendly fire is always turned off in Team Fortress 2, you will not injure your teammates by doing so. You will, however, set a disguised or cloaked spy on fire if you use your flamethrower on him.

    • 4

Listen for the typical uncloaking sound a Spy makes when he becomes visible again. A Spy needs to uncloak, or turn off his invisibility ability, if he wants to attack someone or if his cloak meter is about to run out. This produces a specific noise, which lets you know that a spy is nearby and is now visible.

    • 5

Look out for Spy silhouettes. When a Spy bumps into someone, injures himself, or if his cloak meter runs out, his silhouette will be visible for a short time.
