How to Remove an Object With GIMP

GIMP is a widely used photo-editing application that anyone can download and use for free. Like the pricey commercial photo-editing applications, it has a host of features to help the users repair or alter photos. For example, you may wish that some small item you left in frame when a photo was taken wasn't there. Using GIMP, you can often remove the object from the photo without any noticeable effect.

Instructions

    • 1

Load the photo you want to edit onto your computer.

    • 2

Start GIMP. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that opens, locate the photo you want to edit and open it.

    • 3

Go to the toolbar and select the "Clone" tool. In the tool options, adjust the brush size to be slightly smaller than the size of the object you want to remove. Choose a "Fuzzy" tip.

Hold down "CTRL" key and click on an area you would like to use to paint over the object. Then hold down the left mouse button over the object and move the mouse to paint it away. Save your work.
