How to Turn an Android into a Flash Drive

Android devices typically use some form of flash memory for their internal storage. Some Android devices use internal flash memory exclusively, while others allow extra storage on removable media, such as microSD flash cards. You can turn an Android device into a flash drive by connecting it to a computer with a USB cable and toggling the proper settings on the Android device. This allows the computer to recognize the Android as a regular USB flash drive.

  • Connect the Android device to a computer with a USB cable.

  • Drag down the top bar with your finger on the Android device.

  • Tap "USB Connected."

  • Tap "Connect USB Storage."

  • Open the computer's file manager utility to access the files on the Android device. For example, in Microsoft Windows, click the "Start" button, then click "Computer." Double-click the Android flash device, usually labeled as the "E:" drive.
